My Time at Disney on Ice
On Saturday I woke up feeling tired after a late night.
I reluctantly trudged down the hallway to the kitchen to have breakfast.
Feeling better after breakfast, I finished my jobs and packed the
last few things into my bag.
Suddenly I heard the sound of a squeaky car horn in the background.
I peeked outside to see my grandad striding up the driveway.
Kaiah and I lugged our luggage out to the car to get dropped off at school.
When we arrived at school, I felt kind of disappointed to see no one there except Matua and whaea c standing in the cold classroom.
It took a while for everyone to arrive.
Jett, Ani, and Ngarama arrived not long after.
It was time to leave. Everyone boarded the van and we left
Westland High School.

Arriving at Arthurs pass, we jumped out of the van and started throwing snowballs at each other.
Tiare and I were quick to make an alliance.
Unfortunately, I got hit and screamed,
“This is the end!”
I was cold and wet when whaea C called out it was time to go.
I clambered up into the van and our journey continued until we stopped at
Springfield. I got out, stretched and yawned tiredly before sprinting towards
the giant pink donut.
Tiare threw pebbles at Ngarama and Ani. Ngarama picked up some pebbles as
Tiare started running toward the locked van. He knew there was no escaping
his fate. He ran around the van He got distracted by a truck going passed on
some dirty snow while he was looking at it Ngarama had a chance to get her
revenge. Tiare didn’t notice her at first, but when he did, he knew it was over.
It was too late she had found him, Ngarama lifted her hand and threw the
rocks
Tiare was lying there in pain he picked up the brown snow, but it was too late
she
had quickly hopped into the van. It was only then that he gave up and
bought a pie. He then went back to the van and so did I.
We left for Sheffield where I bought a pie, it was warm and really nice.
Later that day we arrived at Te Pihopatanga, which was our accommodation
for the next couple of nights.
Later on that evening we got ready to go to Garden City Restaurant for tea.
Garden City is an all you can eat buffet. We left after having a yummy meal
returning to Te Pihopatanga. We went over our kapa haka bracket and
afterwards, we played some games. Later that night we finally went to sleep.
It was a slow start the following morning and it took me a while to get up,
but I eventually got up and dressed. We went to Palms  Mall. I used the
change I had from yesterday to buy a drink and a packet of shapes. I also
went to Kmart with Zion and Jett. We played hide and seek, however,
I didn’t win. Sadly we had to go. We went to Margret Mahy Park but
only for five minutes because we had to play netball. I was annoyed
because 10 people wanted to play netball we all had to as I didn’t get
why we couldn't just have one teacher at the park. There were three teachers there, luckily I didn’t have to play netball,
but I couldn't go back to the park either so I was stuck watching them
play netball. I couldn't go on my phone because I had left it in the van.
I thought we would be on the playground. Finally, we were left returning
to Te Pihopatanga to get ready to go to Disney on Ice.
An hour passes, we were now in the vans. It was so close now.
We arrived and received our tickets before heading inside to
see the most expensive merchandise on sale for the public to purchase.
We left for the stairs, I was excited for the show to start.
There were two hosts a girl and a boy, they were both really annoying,
but I just wanted that girl to be quiet, her voice was very annoying.
It was like she was there for fame and the other guy too.
the show finished and we left to go to hells pizza for dinner.
It was really good considering that I had never Hell’s Pizza before.
Then we left to to go to our venue for the night. The next morning
we had to get up early so we could clean up and load our gear back
into the van. We went to the mall for lunch where I bought a snack
burger. Later on we left for home Overall it was such a cool trip and
I enjoyed it  I would like to give big thanks to all those who fundraised
for the trip and thanks to our tuakana (older students) for looking after
us. Last but not least our wonderful Kaiako (teachers) for running the
whole trip.

TE HUI AHUREI 2019
On Monday, 23 September the Westland High School Kapa Haka
Group attended the annual Te Hui Ahurei o Te Tai o Te Tai o Poutini
Haka Festival. This was a long day for the roopū. We performed at
3:30 pm that afternoon. To get the day started I ate breakfast, then went
to the school to catch the van heading up to Greymouth for the festival.
We arrived at the Greymouth Regent Theatre where the festival was held
and waited in the foyer for the pōwhiri to begin. We were called in by the
kaikaranga and we meandered into the venue and sat down. We listened
to the kaikōrero who welcomed us. Following the pōwhiri the MC went over
the health and safety procedures and then the first group of the day, Greymain 1
performed. I watched all the groups including Hokitika Primary School.
There was one group left to perform and that would be the end of the first
quarter. A  Preschool group performed while everyone was having lunch.
Later on, I discovered there was free sausage sizzle outside. I at about 4
sausages. There wasn’t much else to do but until 1 o’clock. At 1 pm it we
were instructed to go to the changing rooms to practice and get changed into
our performance uniform. An hour and a half passed and it's time to go
on stage. I could feel the excitement flowing through me. We were on and I was
ready for what was about to happen. The first song of six was the waiata tira,
followed by the whakaeke, the waiata- ā-ringa, the poi, the haka. and finally the
whakawātea.
It was over I felt a giant weight lift off my shoulders. We all exited the stage and
sat down to watch Greymouth High School perform.
When they had finished, we returned to the changing room to change into our
school uniforms and went back to the theatre for the prize giving.
The Primary Schools category was won by Hokitika Primary School won.
The Area School’s category was won by Reefton Area School and the  Secondary
Schools category was won by Westland High School. That was it for the day it
was time to go home to Hokitika. I left with my mother and we bought  KFC. My
day was both exciting and tiresome due to the long wait until our performance.
